If the contact has a Google account

  • Open the Google Maps application on your Android device. If you have not already done so, log in to your Google Account.
  • Tap the icon parallel to the three vertical lines, located in the left corner of the screen, to open the menu.
  • Click “Area Sharing.”
  • Click “Start.”
  • Select the amount of time for which you want to share your location. You can set a specific number of hours by pressing + and – buttons, or tap “Until you turn this off” to allow permanent location sharing.
  • Tap the contacts (s) with whom you want to share your location, then tap “Share”.

If your contact does not have a Google account

If your contact does not have a Google account, they will not appear next to your contacts in Google Maps. When this happens, refer to the following.

  • Swipe through your contacts until you reach the icon marked “More.” Click “More.”
  • Click “Copy to clipboard.”
  • Tap the bookmark icon next to your profile avatar.
  • Click the link that appears in the middle of the screen. This will copy it, so you can paste it anywhere.
  • Share the link with your contact via your preferred messaging app, or email. When someone opens the link, they will take us to Google Maps, where they can find your location.
