  • Welcome to Fences! Here, you can choose to start using the walls or act as an expert by creating the walls on your own. For starters, I recommend the big square button – “Start Using Fences”.

Did your icons suddenly disappear ?? No need to worry. It’s just extra feature on Stardock Fences. Here’s how it works: If you double-click on the desktop, your icons will go away for a while along the walls. It allows you to view the entire table without icons and walls.

If you do not like this feature, just open the Fences program (if you do not know, just follow the steps I have given to open the Fences program at the end of this article). And check the “Hide / disable table icons when table double click” option.

Open Settings

  • You can customize your walls whenever you want by clicking on “Edit

Edit Walls: Move, rename, Remove and Lock

  • After going through the settings, you can set the walls according to your mood on the desktop.
  • Move Click on the walls (or top) icon and drag them around.
  • Rename Click on the wall you want to rename and right-click on it. Select “Rename Fence”
  • A window will open up. There you have to enter the new name you want for.
  • Remove To remove a wall, right-click on the wall. From the drop-down menu select “Remove Fence”.


And if you are happy with your decor, just lock the walls and do not worry about placing them unattended. For that, right-click on any walls. Click on “View” from the drop-down menu and select “Lock Walls” from the side menu.
