The Basilisk Ultimate has a sleek black shell that’s dazzled by Razer’s Chroma RGB backlight. At 4.6 x 2.79 x 1.49 inches and 107 grams, the Basilisk Ultimate felt like the right size and weight for my hands when working and playing. There is an RGB-illuminated Razer logo on the palm rest, a box cutter-shaped plate surrounded by a glossy black accent. The left and right clickers are located behind the high-gloss bit. There is an RGB-illuminated scroll and two DPI buttons between the elegant cutout.

On the right side of the mouse there is a gripping field for your ring and your little finger and on the left side another control panel for your thumb, on which you will find two discrete buttons and a multifunction paddle. The left side handle bends outwards at the bottom so that your thumb can rest somewhere. Both sides have a thin RGB lighting zone on the right under the left and right mouse button.

At the front of the mouse is a slot for a micro USB port, via which the mouse can be charged and switched to cable mode. At the bottom is the wireless 2.4 GHz USB dongle under a plastic door. There’s also a rocker to change the scroll wheel’s resistance, which is excellent. There is also a button to change the Basilisk Ultimate profiles, five of which are fully customizable.

Just like that razor Viper Ultimate, the Basilisk Ultimate, comes with a Razer Chroma mouse charging dock (included $ 169; $ 49 separately), a cute little dock surrounded by Chroma RGB lighting below. On the base there is a black Razer logo directly underneath the magnetic two-pin charging connector and above it a USB Type-A connector for the wireless 2.4 GHz USB dongle of the mouse. Thanks to its magnetic base, the Basilisk Ultimate works seamlessly with the dock.

The Basilisk Ultimate mainly fits the contours of my hand. What I like best is the thumb grip – my thumb has never felt so good. The grip for my ring and little finger could have been better, but most mice don’t fit in well either. The adjustable scroll wheel is super wet and the scroll wheel itself is much better than the Viper Ultimate, which is too small for me.

The main buttons on the left and right are a bit flat, but still have a sharp, satisfactory click. Meanwhile, the palm rest mainly focuses on the top half of my palm instead of the general center, where I think the mouse can be improved a little. Although the Basilisk Ultimate is not as easy to lift as the Viper Ultimate, it still felt relatively light in my hand. In general, the Basilisk Ultimate is quite comfortable to use.

Like the Razer Viper Ultimate, the Razer Basilisk Ultimate is equipped with new technology and is fully supported by the Razer Synapse app. You can configure the 11 programmable buttons of the Basilisk Ultimate on the Customize tab in the Razer Synapse app. If you want to change the DPI, go to the Performance tab, where you can use Synapse to set up the DPI in five steps, with each number between 100 and 20,000.

You can also customize the 14 RGB lighting zones on the Lighting tab, giving you full access to Chroma tools so you can work with primary effects like Wave or create your design in Razers Chroma Studio. You can use the other two tabs in the app to adjust the calibration and power mode of the mouse. According to Razer, the optical switches from Basilisk Ultimate are more durable than those of a conventional mouse: they were rated for 70 million clicks as opposed to 50 million clicks.

Razer Basilisk Ultimate Review: performance

Playing with the Basilisk Ultimate felt natural. In Doom, I stood in line in arcade mode and destroyed demons like no other, from precise nailing the main shots with my weapon to the flowing stamping of the multi-purpose paddle and the execution of several fools. Each mouse should have a paddle in addition to the two buttons on the left, as is the case with the Basilisk Ultimate.

In rest: From the axis, the Basilisk Ultimate has always helped me to land on the weaknesses of every monster. And the ability to shift DPI during operation helped me make fast turns when I needed it.

In the Age of Empire III, I felt comfortable when I used the Basilisk Ultimate for a long time and did simple tasks, such as: B. Send villagers to cut down trees or tell my squad to build walls around my little town. Of course, the mouse was very sensitive when my cut reflexes had to come out during a battle.

The Razer Basilisk Ultimate, along with the other recently launched Razer gaming mice, has a competitive advantage thanks to its hardware. The optical switches use an infrared light beam to register a click, which gives the mouse a response time of 0.2 milliseconds.

With the Razer Focus + optical sensor, Basilisk Ultimate also has intelligent tracking (calibrates the sensor based on the surface on which the mouse is held), asymmetrical lift-off (allows different presets for lift-off) and motion synchronization (improves the reaction speed of the Sensors). According to Razer, the sensor has a resolution accuracy of 99.6% and a tracking speed of 650 inches per second (IPS).

In contrast to typical mice, the mouse feet of the Basilisk Ultimate are made of PTFE (Teflon), which is supposed to increase the gliding speed. It worked with the Viper Ultimate and the Basilisk Ultimate. The screen is so smooth that it feels like someone has put a silk sheet under my mouse.

In addition, Razer claims its wireless technology is 25% faster than any other gaming mouse.

Battery life

The Basilisk Ultimate has a lifespan of 100 hours on a single charge with the lights off, so you can play 5 hours a day for 20 consecutive days or 10 hours a day for 10 days a day (perfect when death stranding comes on) the PC). And like the Viper Ultimate, you can toss the mouse on the charging cradle at the end of a session, so battery life doesn’t matter. The charging station shows the current state of charge of your mouse in the following colors: red (<25%), orange (26% to 50%), yellow (51% to 75%) and green (76% to 99% breathing, 100% ) static).

However, I tested the battery 100% with the lights on and the battery rose from 24% to 4% within a few hours, which was a bit annoying. So if you want to play long sessions, I recommend turning off the lights or turning them off entirely.

Razer Basilisk Ultimate Review: conclusion

The Razer Basilisk Ultimate enters the wireless gaming mouse scene with a new optical sensor and optical buttons for super smooth performance. In addition, it has a comfortable design, a decent charging cradle and an adjustable scroll wheel – all supported by reliable software. However, the price of the mouse can be too high for some.

If you want to save costs, go to the Logitech G502 Proteus Core, which only costs $ 50. It’s wired, but you get some of the same nice features as a customizable scroll wheel and great software. And unlike the Basilisk, the Proteus Core has adjustable weights.

Despite its price, Basilisk Ultimate is one of the best wireless gaming mice you can buy.
