- Restart your PC.

- Navigate to the damaged user account by clicking Start, Computer and then double-click on the Windows hard drive installed – usually c: – and then double-click on the Users folder.
- It is best to copy across the contents of sub-folders separately, and this will give you space to even out information. If you want to copy all content in a row, play hidden files and folders then make sure you do not copy across the following files: -Ntuser.dat -Ntuser.dat.log -Ntuser.ini
- When all the files have been copied to the newly created user profile (you will find it in c: user folder as corrupted profile), restart your computer and access the new profile.
Repair damaged Windows profile
Microsoft says the user profile may become corrupted as your antivirus software scans your PC while trying to log in, but it may also be caused by other things.
A speed reset may be necessary to restart your PC, but if this does not work you will need to restart and boot into Safe Mode. Do this by pressing F8 before viewing the Windows loading screen and selecting Safe Mode from the menu that appears. Safe Mode puts your registry into the built-in Windows controller account, but you may find that some options do not work.
- To adjust the user profile, click Start and type regedit into the search box and press Enter.
- The Registry Editor will launch and you need to navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionProfileList
- Click each S-1-5 folder and double-click the ProfileImagePath entry to find the related user account type. (If your folder name ends with .bak or .but follow Microsoft instructions to rename them.)
- Once you have found the folder for the corrupted profile (and it does not end in .bak), double-click RefCount and change the value data to 0 and click Ok.
- Now double click on State and make sure the Value data is again 0 and click OK.
- Turn off regedit and restart your PC. You should be able to access your account now.
