Create a Child Account

First, you need to create a child account for your child for whom you want to set up up Parental Controls in Windows 11. Note that both parent and child account need to have a separate Microsoft account. While creating a new baby account, you will be asked to create a new Microsoft account to integrate with the child’s account. Now, here are the first steps to create a Child account on Windows 10/11:

  • Open the Settings application on Windows 11.
  • Click your account from the top or go to the Accounts tab.
  • Click Family & other users option.
  • Click on Add Account button next Add family member.
  • Select Create one for the child option.
  • Enter the email address for the child’s account and click Next.
  • Enter your password and click Next.
  • Enter the name and click Next.
  • Select the country of birth and enter the date of birth and click Next.

First, open the Settings application by pressing Windows + I hotkey. Then, tap on your account name from the top left corner or simply select the Account tab from the left side to open up the Account Settings.

Under Account Settings, select Family & other users option to create a child account. Then you need to click on the Add account button which is right next to Add a family member. This will open up A Microsoft account dialog window.

  • In the Microsoft account dialog window, click Create one for child selection.
  • After that, create a new Microsoft account for your child. Simply enter the email ID you want to create and use then click Next button.

Set up and configure parental controls to limit access

After creating a child account, you need to set it up up parental control configurations to block certain websites and other content. Here are the first steps to set up up Parental controls in Windows 11:

  • Go to Settings> Accounts> Family & other users.
  • Click on Manage family settings online or remove the account option.
  • Select the child account for which you want to set up up heart control.
  • Set screen time value.
  • Configure content commands to limit websites, applications, and games.
  • Turn on financial reporting and other financial constraints.

First, go to Settings> Accounts> Family & other users option as we did in the first part. After that, select Manage family settings online or uncheck account option. You will be taken to the Microsoft Family Safety page in your default web browser. On this page, select the child account for which you want to set up up heart control.

Now, on the Family Safety page of your child’s account, you will see a variety of tabs on the left with screen time, content processing, and expenses. You can set up each of these programs individually and according to your requirements. So, first, go to the screen time tab and activate the schedule Use one on all devices to configure screen time limits.

You will be able to set the screen time for each day. If you want to keep the same schedule for every day, you can do that even by choosing the Daily option.

Simply click on a specific date then select a time limit. It also allows you to edit or add multiple settings to allow the child to use the account only for a specific time period. To add a new schedule, click on the Add Schedule option and specify the interval time for using the child’s account. This way, you can add multiple time intervals. Ste up the end of the screen time and click Done button.

Next, go to the Content Authorization tab and in the webpage and search section, turn on Filter inappropriate webpages and browsing searches. This will enable Safearch Search to work in conjunction with Bing and block any content that grows on a child’s account. Other than that, you can use the option of allowed websites only in case you want to allow specific websites.

You can click on Add a Website (+) button now under Allow sites, to add the websites you want to allow on the child’s account. Alternatively, you can block access to certain web pages by adding a webpage (+) button available under Blocked Sites.

Additionally, you can turn on activity search options to find and maintain web searches and activity on your child’s account. Then, go to the Applications and Games section in the same content filtering tab. Here, you can select the age limit to allow age-restricted applications and games only on your child’s account.

In case your child asks to access a specific application, you will be ready for the same. You can allow or deny the requested access. If you want to get access to the application automatically blocked, you can click on Remove button under the Block Apps section.

You can now go to the Expenditure tab where you can turn on activity reports for your children’s expenses on the device. For that, turn on running performance report in this tab.
